Storefront Manager

Shanon Baggett

While Shanon considers Asheville her “true home,” Raleigh has run a very close second since 2007. The mountains have always been close to her heart and therefore Appalachian State University was the perfect spot to gain her BA in Communications and to meet her spouse, Chip, of now over 24 years. Together they are raising two teens, Isabel and Samuel. Isabel also felt called back to the mountains and is enjoying her freshman year at UNCA. Samuel is trying to make his mark at Millbrook High School. Upon walking through the door of DFJ last fall, Shanon instantly knew she was some place special and needed to be a part of this amazing mission. Serving women, supporting vulnerable populations and surrounding herself with a Christ centered organization are all reasons why Shanon feels called to work with Designed For Joy.

Volunteer Coordinator

Emma Watson

Emma is a "unicorn" of the Raleigh area - born and raised right here! She attended Meredith College studying Communication and graduated in 2018. Meredith helped her fall in love with her community and realize how much she loves being surrounded by strong women. Growing up, she spent a week each summer on domestic mission trips with her youth group, so combining her heart for mission and loving on women in her community was a natural fit at Designed for Joy. When she's not trying a new Raleigh restaurant, she is normally found on the coast at her happy place, Emerald Isle. Emma's favorite part of working at Designed For Joy is building relationships with volunteers and traveling for vendor events.

Wholesale Developer

Dawn Shaw

One of the “original natives” of Wake County, Dawn attended East Carolina University in Greenville, NC (Go, Pirates!) graduated with a B.A. in Sociology and a minor in Psychology. As a lifetime cheerleader (her father coached Pop Warner football) from age 5 and into college, Dawn exudes enthusiasm for all she is passionate about. Working in medical sales for 25+ years, she brings her background and her desire for quality products to the table at DFJ. After hearing about Designed for Joy on WRAL, she wanted to be a part of such an amazing organization and started volunteering in the workshop. She now develops wholesale accounts and processes online applications to help bring on new merchants. She is passionate about increasing opportunities for DFJ to grow artisans, encouraging women to reach their potential, and feels most valuable when giving back to her community. Her “fave fellas” are her long-time boyfriend of 12 years, her golden doodle dog Oscar, and her two nephews. She currently resides in Raleigh.

Production Coordinator

Samantha Bishop

Samantha is a former DFJ artisan now in the leadership role of production coordinator. She's originally from New Jersey but has lived in Raleigh for 10 years. When Samantha is not busy making beautiful products, she's with her two little boys many memories. Samantha finds a lot of pride in her work at DFJ. She came to us in a tough time in her life, a single mom, a survivor of trafficking, and homeless. The community in the studio helps her stay on a healthy path. Samantha's long term goal is to get her cosmetology license. Her biggest passion is to help others feel great about themselves.

Production Coordinator

Julie Matheny

Julie is from everywhere and yet nowhere. She was born on moving day and has enjoyed a somewhat nomadic lifestyle ever since! Julie graduated with her Bachelors of Science in Chemistry but God had different plans for her life. Julie and her husband Jeremy have worked with various non-profit organizations and lived in India and Thailand before moving to Cary, NC in 2017. They have appreciated a more settled existence since then and are currently enjoying the adventure of parenting middle schoolers! Her biggest passion is for women to know that they are seen and loved. She enjoys the unique opportunity that Designed for Joy has given her to bring her love of sewing and passion for mentoring women together. When she is home, Julie enjoys quilting, gardening, cooking and playing fetch with her dog. Her favorite way to relax is soaking up the sun on a beach with a good book.
